Your Guide to Living in Ft. Campbell, KY

Alongside the Tennessee-Kentucky border sits Ft. Campbell, the Army base that's home to America's only Air Assault Division.  The men and women who call Ft. Campbell home have a lot of local support, as you'll see little military-related touches all throughout the Clarksville-Hopkinsville-Oak Grove area, like flags and ribbons.

While there are places to live on post, there are also a number of apartments near Ft. Campbell that will keep you close to all of the action -- while also giving you a chance to experience the local flavor that exists off post.  If that sounds like the living arrangement for you, here's what you'll get to see and do:

Fort Campbell Attractions:

Take a step back in time at the Don F. Pratt Museum.  Ever since 1956, this museum has chronicled the successes of the 101st Airborne Division (also known as the "Screaming Eagles").  Among the historical treasures, you'll also find lots of World War II items and exhibits.  It's located on post, but as long as you're willing to go through the security check, any member of the public can visit the museum.

If you'd rather get out and add some natural beauty to your historical fun, check out the Tebbs Bend - Green River Bridge Battlefield.  This three-mile loop is where Union troops prevailed during the Civil War, even though they were outnumbered five to one.  You'll get to see a couple of buildings that were there during the battle, along with photos that document the area's Civil War history.

Shopping on Fort Campbell Military Base:

Ft. Campbell has the largest Post Exchange in the world, but if you want to give your credit card a workout off post, you won't have to travel far to do it.  There is a huge collection of stores along Ft. Campbell Boulevard, most of which are south of the base itself.  Keep driving south for a few miles to get to Clarksville, where you can do some specialty shopping and enjoy a day at the Governor's Square Mall.

Dining at Fort Campbell:

The Post Exchange is also home to a number of chain restaurants, but if you want to experience the local flavor, there are a couple of options on post that can give it to you.  Green Beans is a popular coffee and breakfast place, and it's also got comfy places to sit where you can spend some time relaxing.  Also on post is Soul Fuel BBQ.  But if you plan on eating here, be prepared to wait!  It's so tasty that there's usually a line at this place (it gets especially long at lunch time!), and sometimes, they'll even run out of food altogether!

Employment on Post:

Of course, all of the jobs at Ft. Campbell are Army-related.  However, you don't need to be a soldier to get a job here!  If you need a little help finding work, Ft. Campbell has a Family Employment Readiness Program & Job Information Center that can point you in the right direction.
