Historic Downtown Clarksville - Where the Past Comes Alive

Clarksville has recently grown into one of Tennessee's most populated cities, but the people who live here are so proud of their roots that they've preserved the entire Downtown area and turned it into a full-fledged historic district!

Whether you decide to rent an apartment in Historic Downtown Clarksville or simply enjoy hanging out here every now and then, there is plenty to see and do:

Attractions:

The Post Office in Downtown Clarksville played a major role in the city's tobacco boom back in the 1800's, and today, the refurbished building is home to the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center.  Inside, you'll find an art gallery, historic treasures, and a hands-on children's museum.

The L&N Train Station is also a fun place to spend an afternoon.  It was built back in 1881 and then completely refurbished -- and opened to the public for tours -- back in 1996.  And, yes, it provided the inspiration for the Monkees' hit song, "The Last Train to Clarksville"!

Shopping:

If your apartment is within walking distance to Historic Downtown Clarksville, you'll also be able to walk to a number of trendy boutiques, gift shops, and other specialty stores.  Shopping here is a more relaxed, more upscale experience than what you'll find at the Governor's Square Mall or at the shopping centers along Wilma Rudolph and Fort Campbell Boulevards.

Dining:

In addition to Blackhorse Pub & Brewery and Edward's Steakhouse -- two of the most popular restaurants in all of Clarksville -- the Historic Downtown area is also home to smaller restaurants that the locals love.  The Alley is a fun place to eat, drink, and listen to live music.  Or, if you want something a little more low-key, head to Cloud 9, where you can indulge on fancy appetizers, unique desserts, and designer cocktails.

Or, if you prefer to do your own cooking, head to the Clarksville Downtown Market.  It's open on Saturday mornings from the end of May through October.  The fruits, veggies, and other goodies here are so tasty that it's been named one of the best farmers' markets in the entire country!

Employment:

The best part about living in a Historic Downtown Clarksville apartment and getting a job here is that you'll likely be able to walk to work.

So, what kinds of employment opportunities are there here?

Because it's such a hub for shopping and eating, most of the jobs you'll see posted in Historic Downtown Clarksville are in the retail and dining industries.  However, there are other companies that call this area home -- including a few web design and marketing companies.  It's truly a case of the past meeting the future!
